“We are currently exploring, together with our transport partners, the possibility of using bio-based fuels to further reduce the climate impact of our transport. Discussions are ongoing on how to implement this going forward.” - Staffan Till, Sustainability Manager, Silva
Responsible production and supply chain
Because we do not own our own production facilities, our supply chain is critical to achieving our sustainability goals. We continuously review our production and logistics to reduce our environmental impact and ensure good working conditions.
“Through long-term partnerships with our suppliers, we can take greater responsibility for quality, emissions and social responsibility throughout the chain – from factory to finished product.” - Staffan Till, Sustainability Manager, Silva

Our suppliers – the key to success
Around 20–21% of emissions for Silva products come from our supply chain. Together with our suppliers, we set shared sustainability ambitions and work actively with follow-ups and long-term improvements. One key focus area is reducing the use of fossil energy – and here we have seen good progress. Several suppliers have installed solar panels to cover part of their energy needs.

Focus on direct impact
Emissions from our own operations (Scope 1 and 2) are smaller, but this is where we have the greatest direct influence:
- Our head office in Bromma runs on renewable electricity and district heating.
- Of our 21 company cars, 12 are electric, and our goal is a fully electric fleet.

Ambitious targets
We have set a target to reduce our emissions intensity by 60% by 2030. To get there, we need to ensure that production is powered by renewable energy, while accelerating initiatives that reduce overall energy use in manufacturing. This is where we can make the biggest difference and drive the largest change. From where we stand today, we also see opportunities to implement other improvements across the production and supply chain that will further reduce our emissions and negative impacts.

Code of Conduct and follow-up
All suppliers must sign and comply with our Code of Conduct, which is based on the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct and the UN Global Compact’s ten principles. It covers areas such as:
- Child labour
- Discrimination
- Freedom of association
“We follow up compliance with the Code of Conduct through annual visits to our most important suppliers.” - Staffan Till, Sustainability Manager, Silva
Responsibility in the supply chain
We are members of the supplier initiative amfori and audit our main suppliers in Asia through amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). The programme helps us identify, assess and manage social risks in the supply chain.
Over the past year:
- 15 of our Tier 1 suppliers were audited through amfori BSCI, and an additional three through Better Work and SMETA.
- Together, they represent around 80% of our purchasing volume.
- Most received a C grade (on a scale from A–E), with deficiencies relating to overtime and routines for social responsibility.
- No zero-tolerance violations were identified.
Going forward, our ambition is to support suppliers in addressing these issues and to extend the use of amfori BSCI to selected Tier 2 suppliers. We have also started implementing amfori BEPI, a tool for evaluating environmental performance in the supply chain.
Energy use
Reduced energy use in the supply chain
Today, our suppliers’ energy use accounts for just over 25% of our total emissions. To reduce this footprint, we have mapped the energy mix of our suppliers and are working together to:
- reduce total energy consumption
- increase the share of renewable energy
Several suppliers – together representing around 35% of our purchasing volume – have already installed solar panels to cover part of their energy needs.

Lower energy use
To reduce energy use when our products are in use, we are phasing out alkaline batteries and moving towards a larger share of products powered by rechargeable batteries. There is still a need for products that use alkaline batteries – for example backup lamps that play an important role in safety, or in situations where users are in places with limited access to charging.
Transport
Our transport-related emissions
Most of our suppliers are located in Asia and our main markets are in Northern Europe, which makes reliable logistics essential. We continuously review our supply chain and logistics to reduce the impact from transport while ensuring that our products reach customers in good condition and on time.

Transport choices
We always weigh transport modes against time, cost and environmental impact. Our guiding principles are:
- No air freight whenever it can be avoided
- A clear focus on sea and land transport to reduce climate impact
Transport-related emissions are reported transparently in our sustainability report.
